Welcome back guys!
Let’s say it out load, Rio de Janeiro has it all: stunning natural beauty, vibrant culture, friendly people, and endless opportunities for fun and adventure. It’s no wonder that it’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. But did you know that it’s also a great place for digital nomads?
As a digital nomad myself, I’ve been traveling the world for meanwhile six years, working remotely and exploring sunny destinations. And out of all the places I’ve visited, Rio de Janeiro is my absolute favorite for digital nomads and remote workers. It even beats it’s inflation dragged and therefore cheaper neighbor Argentina – and it’s capital Buenos Aires – because money is not everything ;).
In this blog post, I’ll tell you why Rio de Janeiro is the perfect digital nomad destination and how you can make the most of your stay there.
The Coolest Co-Working Spaces in Rio de Janeiro
As a digital nomad, you know how important it is to have a good place to work. A place where you can be productive, creative, and connected. A place where you can feel at home.
Well, Rio de Janeiro has some of the coolest co-working spaces. They have one thing in common: You also can actually live there too, which is much better in my opinion. Otherwise you always to travel to your co-working spot with all your stuff and take unnecessary risks. In the end we are still in South-America right? But don’t worry, you will find cafes and professional co-working spaces too just to change it up a bit. Anyway here are some of my favorites:
Selina Copacabana
The well-known hotel & hostel chain Selina almost never disappoints you. And let me tell you, it’s awesome. Selina Copacabana is part of a global network of co-working and co-living spaces that are designed for digital nomads like us.
It has everything you need: fast wifi all over the place! Which even nowadays you will find rarely! Ergonomic furniture, meeting rooms, printing services, kitchen to cook! Small restaurant with bar and 24/7 access with security. You can also join their events, workshops, and social activities and meet other digital nomads from all over the world. And the best part? You can stay in their beautiful and comfortable rooms or dorms, which are literally next to the beach.
The only downsite is that the co-working space is unfortunately quite small, but the view makes up for it!
I lived their myself one month and absolutely loved it! Such a time saver!
Selina Lapa
If you’re more into art and culture than beach, you’ll love Selina Lapa. It’s located in Lapa, the bohemian and artistic heart of Rio. Selina Lapa is a co-working & co-living space that reflects the local spirit. It has modern design with colorful murals and artworks by local artists. It has spacious and bright common areas where you can work and relax.
Similarly it has all commodities as Selina Copacabana with bigger (especially the co-working space)! Plus, it has a rooftop terrace with stunning views of the city and the famous Lapa arches.
You like party too? Right outside Selina Lapa starts a strip which leads to a very busy bar & disco area almost every night!
Pura Vida Hostel
Last on the list Is Pura vida Hostel. If you’re on a budget and looking for a party hostel inside a peaceful favela Pura Vida Hostel is a great option. It’s located in Copacabana, actually very close to Selina Copacabana and just 1 block from the beach.
Pura Vida Hostel is a co-working space that offers a relaxed and cozy atmosphere for digital nomads. It has a lounge area with comfy sofas, hammocks, and bean bags where you can work and hang out. It has wifi, lockers, kitchen facilities, and 24/7 access. And it also has co-living accommodations where you can opt for private rooms or dorms that are clean and comfy. Plus, it has a bar that hosts live music and parties.
This is by far the best hostel if you want it all in one place!! Meeting local people & foreigners, party, events, experiencing living in a favela and the beach just 1 block away!
I lived 2-3 months there in a private room and absolutely loved it! It’s by far the best to meet people all over the world!
The Most Amazing Things to Do and See in Rio de Janeiro
Working is not enough for a digital nomad! You also want to have fun and discover the city that you’re living in. And Rio de Janeiro has so much to offer. Here are some of the things that I love to do and see in Rio:
- Hike or take the train to Christ the Redeemer: This is a must-do for anyone who visits Rio de Janeiro. Christ the Redeemer is the symbol of the city and one of the wonders of the world. You can take a train or a van or hike up to see it up close. The view from there is incredible. You can see the whole city and feel its energy. And of course, you can take some awesome photos with the statue.
- Hit the Beaches: Rio de Janeiro is famous for its beaches, which are not only beautiful but also lively and fun. You can find a beach for every mood and taste. Some of the most popular ones are Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Barra da Tijuca. You can sunbathe, swim, surf, play volleyball, or just chill and watch the people. You can also join the parties and events that happen on the beach, especially during Carnival. Just be careful as most robberies happen on the beach!
- Experience Carnival: Speaking of Carnival, this is something that you don’t want to miss if you’re in Rio de Janeiro during that time. Carnival is the biggest and most colorful party in the world, where the whole city celebrates the Brazilian culture and joy. You can join the millions of people who dance on the streets to the rhythm of samba, wear costumes, and have fun. You can also watch the parades, which are spectacular shows of music, dance, and creativity. Or you can attend some of the balls and parties that happen in the clubs and hotels.
- Explore the Nature: Rio de Janeiro is not only a city but also a natural paradise. You can find many green spaces and parks where you can enjoy some fresh air and nature. Some of the best ones are Tijuca National Park, which is the largest urban forest in the world, Botanical Garden, which has thousands of plant species, and Sugarloaf Mountain, which has amazing views of the city and the bay.
