Welcome Guys,

today I will show you all websites and resources I use to travel during covid-19 restrictions. It’s actually very easy to check if you can travel from your country during covid-19, but it seems like most people still are unsure. I will try to take away your doubts!

You can also go directly to my (covid-19) travel resources to have a quick look by clicking HERE.

I will show you where to get a covid-19 travel insurance and an onward ticket (if you book a one way flight to your desired destination) and typical entry requirement during covid-19.

I will be continuing to update this post so bookmark it too !

No BS let’s jump right into it! All you need to know about covid-19 travel restrictions:

Easy ways to check for open countries and covid-19 restrictions

I always check the following websites down below! Make sure to check all of them to have the most recent updates. Some websites update information faster than other! Of course you can always check the official website for the specific country you want to travel, but it’s not very user friendly and eventually you need to use automatic translation as well, which is not optimal.

Before you book your flight

Once you checked the covid-19 restrictions and know if you generally can travel to your desired destination you can start to look for flight in the well known flight search engines Momondo, Skyscanner and Kayak (all in my travel resources as well).

Also I always check the flight history (arrivals) from the official airport website for my destination, for example for Cancun (www.cancunairport.com etc.), if you want to travel to Mexico. You don’t have to do it necessarily, but I like to double check it to make sure there were some recent arrivals from the city/country and airline you want to travel from and the exact airline. Especially if your flight has many stopover (usually cheaper than direct flights).

With that said, don’t trust flight search engines alone and don’t use their travel maps to check covid-19 travel restrictions. I checked it and it seems like they are not updated at all! Use the websites above!

Typical covid-19 entry requirements and MUST HAVES

In short you usually need always the following in this very moment. Even if you don’t need it always, I highly recommend to have it anyway!

1. Onward ticket also known as return ticket (if you book a one way ticket to stay flexible).

There are several paid and free websites for that. It’s up to you which one you wanna use. Just make sure to choose a different Airline for the onward ticket!

So for example if you fly with KLM from Munich in Germany to Cancun in Mexico, make sure to have an onward ticket with another airline from for example Cancun (as your new departure airport). Also usually you have several stops during you trip and changes of airlines. Just make sure to not use any of them showing in your flight itinerary.

Paid ones:

https://www.toponwardticket.com/

Cost is $10 (USD) you can pay with PayPal or credit card!

Free ones:

https://keyflight.io/fake

If you want it with a booking code you pay $5, if not it’s for FREE.

Moreover I always mark the fly out date, my name, and the confirmation to make it as easy and fast as possible for the airline crew or immigration.

2. About covid-19 travel insurances

Always have an international covid-19 covered travel insurance. CLICK HERE to see a summary of the best international travel insurances and the one I use myself.

In short, the best ones which also cover covid-19, are flexible (you can cancel any time) and for worldwide citizens available are Heymondo and SavetyWing travel insurance!

It doesn’t really matter which one you have, just have one. Definitely buy this peace of mind it’s also not expensive at all!!

The cheaper one is SavetyWing, but SavetyWing has $250 (USD) deductibles as well. That means you pay everything yourself until you pass $250 (USD), while when choosing the Heymondo travel insurance you pay a little bit more but don’t have any deductibles and it covers actually more! AND with my specific link you also get 5% off the normal price. Make a Quote by clicking HERE!

In my opinion it will be about break even in the end of the day! You will probably get sick at least once, especially if you plan to backpack/travel several months! Or even work remotely like me!

Don’t think too much get any of those.

There’s is another very reputable and popular one called World Nomads, but unfortunately it just covers covid-19 for US citizen’s in the moment. So if you’re from the US get World Nomads as it covers by far the most!

Again click here to have more detailed information about all of my trusted travel insurances!

3. PCR test or antibody/antigen test, Covid-19 travel forms and eventually even vaccination soon!

The freest country in the moment right now is Mexico and there especially the Caribbean coast along the Riviera Maya (Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum). For Mexico you don’t need any test to enter! You just need to fill out a form before your flight! (Stand 12 April 2021).

I made already several posts about the most open country and region in the world. Click below to check it out!

For the rest of Latin America you always need a PCR or antibody/antigen test to enter! So make sure to get one before you flying to these countries. Usually you need to show a negative result 24-72 hours before entering a country. See exact times on the websites above in the very beginning!

Also the day you made the PCR or antibody test already counts! NOT when you actually get the result! Make sure to count that in because many travelers got rejected for boarding because of that mistake! Make a covid-test where you get the results in max 24h to make sure it’s still valid!

Furthermore make sure to always fill out the covid-19 travel forms and get a printed version of it before your flight (the airlines and immigration love printed stuff)! Some countries/airlines ask for it! Again for the exact links where to find these forms check out the 4 websites I suggest you in the beginning.

So where can I travel now without quarantine in North and South America (Stand 12 April 2021)??

You can technically travel to almost all countries, some or more open than others regarding to restaurants, bars, tourist attractions and curfews etc.  The most  open countries I know are:

Mexico (by far the most open space in the world, especially the Caribbean coast)

US for example Miami (after you stayed 14 days in Mexico or other country seen as low risk from the US government and provide an negative PCR or antigen test). You cannot travel from Europa to the US. You have to stay out of EU 14 days first. Again check all the websites in the very beginning!

Guatemala

Costa Rica

Brazil (I’m in Rio in the moment, restaurants and beaches are open since 9 April)

Peru

Colombia
