My favorite Travel Medical Insurance Plan for travelers on budget: SafetyWing
I’ve written a lot about travel insurance plans, including my favorite travel insurances for starting your working holiday in Australia and top travel insurances for long-term travelers.
One name consistently comes up: SafetyWing travel medical insurance. It’s not because I collaborate with them, but I genuinely believe it’s one of the best and most flexible insurance for the money you pay!
Ever since SafetyWing Nomad Insurance 2.0 came out, life for backpackers and digital nomads has become significantly easier. With the sports add-on and electronic theft add-on, this travel insurance made a bold move. Not to forget, they removed the tedious $250 deductible, where in the past you had to surpass this amount to be eligible to claim (pay from your own pocket till $250).
What’s New?
The claiming process just got even easier and faster, which I will elaborate further on in this article. But first, let’s do a quick recap of SafetyWing benefits, for those newbies!
Recap: Most important benefits for traveler
SafetyWing travel insurance benefits at a glance:
- No More Deductibles: Claim as little as $1. In all the travel insurances I promote, none have deductibles.
- Purchase Anytime: You can buy it during your trip! The process takes no longer than 5 minutes. Costs? From $56.28 every 4 weeks!
- Flexible Cancellation: Cancel anytime and extend automatically if you wish! No contract locking.
- Must-Have Add-Ons: Electronic theft and adventure sports coverage!
- Global Coverage: You get covered worldwide, even in the US if you choose.
- Straightforward Claiming Process: The claiming process is now hassle-free. Done in 5 min.
Dynamic Nature of Travel Insurance: What’s new in SafetyWing Nomad Insurance?
Travel insurance companies are dynamic, constantly evolving for better or worse. That’s why you should always consider changing your medical insurance, if it’s not in your favor anymore.
I always try to recommend just the best travel medical insurances. Therefore, you can be sure that all the travel insurances I recommend are 100% flexible (you can cancel anytime) without being locked into a long-term contract.
With that said, the second most tedious thing after the accident or disease is the claiming process. I remember spending hours in the past just to sort this out.
Due to the new process at the SafetyWing travel medical insurance, these days are gone!
The claiming process
Time eater: Preparation
Get your medical bills ready when claiming. Yes, you still need to show them! Just make a photo of the medical report and the prescriptions from the doctor to have it ready. It’s really as easy as that. I use Dropbox and Google Photos to have access to these without my phone. Don’t be lazy, do it in the very beginning.
Submitting a claim
Next, in your Dashboard, just click on “Submit a claim” and follow the process like in the screenshot above! Your claim should be done in as little as 5 minutes once you have your documents ready.
Remember: You can always contact customer service on the bottom left and right, if you still have questions!
When do I get refunded?
Good news here, too! On average, you get reimbursed in 2.8 business days after your claim. This is what recent statistics say, so don’t hold me to this, if it takes 5 days. Anyway, it’s much faster than before. I remember waiting 2 weeks or more. That’s definitely a big step forward and unseen in the travel insurance market.
Final thoughts on past and recent future
SafetyWing has made significant improvements in its travel medical insurance plan, making it a top and affordable choice for travelers.
